Sigh

It has been a long week.  And it’s only Thursday.  Woe is me…

Still, positive thinking…

1.) New car on Monday (snow on Sunday, before heated seats arrive, urgh);

2.) Bahamas holiday in a month (lots and lots of work before then, plus epic Weight Watchers work to get bikini ready for the sunshine (3lbs down, moving in the right direction!!), urgh);

3.) Home for Christmas in a month and a bit (sooo much shopping to get done before then); and

4.) Halloween this weekend where I actually get to be part of the trick or treating brigade at the house tomorrow as it falls on a FRIDAY (and potentially end up in a heap tonight if the porch is already decked out… falling over a fake skeleton in the dark is not how I want to finish this evening).

Hmm well that was sort of focusing on the positives…

One of those days…

Well, not really.  Yesterday was a bit of a git, to be honest – it started off ok, being all deceptively productive.  Then it got into interview terratory (hmm, I’m honestly not sure that is spelt right…).  Now, you see, I enjoy interviewing people to work at the firm.  It means I get to grill them a bit (nicely, obviously) and also be an unofficial PR agent for the firm.  Which is quite fun, really.  But after SEVEN interviews in a row, I was losing a.) my voice and b.) my will to live.  But after we debriefed and decided who was a yes and who was a no, it was back to work.  When everything exploded.  All.  At.  Once.

Still, I’m still here today, having dealt with most of it (I really hope I haven’t forgotten anything!!!) and kept things moving on everything else.  So while I would like nothing more than to just crawl into bed right now, I am still at the client, working.

I also got to hang out with Neelam last night – Chinese food (totally unsuitable for my healthy kick, however yesterday ended up as such a disaster that I just didn’t care) and the final Harry Potter film.  Nothing like having a quiet night with a great friend, a good film and some food.  Heaven.

Busy Busy Busy

Well, it is *that* time of year again…  Once more into the biggest client year end of all time.  Well, maybe…  Anyway, things are very busy, with work and with having lovely people to stay (Neelam is staying, ergo there has been a fabulous visit to the Manderin Oriental Spa, a trip to the JP Lantern Festival (photos to follow… honest!), and lots of chatting.  Which has been marvellous!

I also appear to have FINALLY sorted out my next car – I should pick it up in November, and it’s rather nice… Going from a Fiesta with wind-up windows to a Focus with all mod cons (yes, electric windows) and remote start, heated seats and a rear view camera will be rather nice…

Back to work I go…

Success!!

I am now a fully paperworked and appropriately licensed Massachusetts driver!! I.e. I passed the road test! Hooray!! It was more stressful than I anticipated, but in the end I just had to keep my head together, remember my hand signals (yes, they actually tested that) and not run any stop signs. Done!!

It’s been a good week, all in all. Winning the weekly football pool at the weekend ($150, thank you very much, AND 100% correct picks of winning teams. Unexpected doesn’t cover it, but it’s hysterical to see the looks of disbelief and slight disgust on the boys faces…), picking out the new car, getting my tax return at last (very nice rebate thank you Mr IRS) and passing the test.

AND I have a visitor arriving on Friday.

AND I saw The Lion King at the Boston Opera House tonight. Thus I’m actually quite tired, and off to bed now. In a smug sort of way…

Cross Everything…

… I have an appointment with the DMV tomorrow. To test my road skills. Since I’ve been driving on a UK license for over 13 years, this shouldn’t be a problem, but who knows!

Please keep everything crossed…

Bad blogger (again…)

Jet lag is a horrible thing, and I’m going to blame it for the delay in writing.  The wedding at home was AMAZING (only one injury – a broken wrist on the dancefloor) and despite travelling economy in both directions it wasn’t a bad trip at all!  I was in New York straight afterwards for an SEC conference, which was interesting.  Sadly I didn’t see the city at all, really, as I spent my only evening there lazing in my hotel room watching bad TV and trying to get more sleep.  Hey ho – there’s always next time!

Anyway, we are past the hump of this week, and counting down to the weekend has officially begun.  Hooray!
