Changes of plan

So I’m not going to the Caribbean. Having thought about it, the idea of going somewhere totally new, totally solo where I don’t speak the language and where there would be significant connections to get to any resort I choose, didn’t seem so bright… So instead I am going to drive down to Newport, Rhode Island, for 3 nights. I have a lovely hotel booked right on the waterfront, with a pool, close to restaurants and right in the thick of it. There are a few spas around too, so I shall have to get booking…

The New Orleans attempt continues – we are working on costings at the moment. Fingers crossed it is manageable!

And now to bed…

Turnarounds

It looks like I might be going to New Orleans in April after all. Mainly because my manager is awesome. It depends on whether we can work out the costs etc, but fingers crossed!

In other news, work is going well and I am still trying to work out the final plan for my grand Caribbean plan to chill out at the end of busy season… So nothing exciting is happening. Unlike at home where my Daddy had a birthday. Not a big one, you understand, but a birthday, and I’m very sorry to have missed being there for it. I’ll just have to find some extra fabulous things to do during the parental visit in May/June.

Thank you…

… For the lovely comments on last night’s post. It was a really low point but it was so lovely to get so many lovely posts telling me that I wasn’t totally losing it.

After a lovely brunch at Abe and Louie’s followed by some terribly therapeutic shopping with lovely friends (very sparkly shoes), all I need is an Oscar-style dress to wear with my purchases… Needless to say I am watching the Oscar ceremony from my bed in my PJs. The musical numbers are on right now, which are, frankly, spectacular. Not bad entertainment for a Sunday night!

Ups and downs

The downs today included being mocked with the most spite I have encountered so far for my accent by two junior members of staff because one of them did not fancy using her brain to think about what I was saying to her. It went past making mild fun (I deal with that fine) and into nasty mocking. They got a dressing down and it will come up in their appraisals if they do it again – it was all due to me telling the one working for me that she could not have headphones in while in an open plan client office lat week. She immediately got in touch with the other via online messenger (I know this because not only could I hear the frantic angry typing, but she followed it up with “X says it’s not a proper policy, its only up to the most senior person on site”. Which was me, so I said no, again, and she sulked) and they have been gossiping about the “injustice” of it for days. Ridiculous.

Anyway, I ended up feeling totally enraged (despite a great (?) boot camp session first thing and amazing partner feedback on the job I’m just finishing, which made me, if possible, even more horribly annoyed because I was cross rather than happy), and as a result decided to pop to the wine shop near home to get some supplies. While I was there, I remembered that there is a nail spa in the same row, so I went for a manicure to try to calm down. And now I have lovely shiny pink nails and a very relaxed disposition. Particularly after a glass or two of wine…

Roll on the gym tomorrow morning. Methinks it is going to hurt A LOT after boot camp today…

Disney On Ice

Great fun. Lots and LOTS of screaming, sugared-up children (somewhat predictably) waving light spinners and sticky fingers, but some beautiful skating and one thing very different to do on a Friday night.

It’s been a long week, but getting home to find that my parcels had all been delivered was rather nice – a San Francisco travel guide, a yoga mat (currently airing out…) and my shiny new camera. It’s red. And awesome. Get ready for lots of testing photos over the next few weeks… Whenever I can get out to use it, that is…

Return of the snow…

… Not today, thankfully, but Saturday night into Sunday. We are due another foot of the stuff!! The last drifts haven’t melted yet (two weeks on) and more just doesn’t quite seem fair…

I very nearly sorted out a trip to New Orleans today. To the point where we had looked up flight times and decided what area we were going to stay in. Until it became apparent that the weekend in question was during a busy period of the massive client so I can’t be spared to take Friday off, and will likely be working the Saturday too to keep up. Back to the drawing board… It might be 2-day visit only!

Very tired. We are over halfway through busy season now, which officially ends at the start of April, so I am counting down to having access to full weekends again.

One of those days…

So today didn’t start brilliantly. I fell flat on my face on some ice in the street. To the extent where a man passing in a car shouted “ouch” so loudly in sympathy that I heard him through his closed car windows.

On arriving at work, I managed to rip a hem in my right trouser leg, and spent the rest of the day wandering about with one leg longer than the other.

The final straw was realizing that some work I had been promised was complete hadn’t been tied to the prior year work papers, and had errors as a result. Fun and games…

However, on the plus side, I am going to Las Vegas in November, I have a voucher for a first class flight to anywhere in the continental or non continental US, Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico, and I have a friend at work who is very keen to go to San Francisco and Yosemite with me in July, as well as wanting to go to New Orleans one weekend!! And the work went pretty well other than that mentioned above.

All good fun…

Partner review

This was a long day. For various reasons that I shall explain another day when I’m not straight off to bed.

Exciting news is, however, that it is raining. Which means the snow will be gone soon. God bless the rain!!!

Presidents’ Day

Not 100% sure about the punctuation on that one… Anyway, it’s a holiday we don’t get, so roll on Memorial Day!

A day of discoveries today – we have won a new client which I am hoping to be a lot more involved in, and I am getting a phone call from my UK office in the morning regarding some kind of development. Meetings for all offices in the morning UK time, then my turn to find out at 9ish USA time. We shall see…

Anyway, partner review day tomorrow, so it’s time for bed. Maybe my legs will start to feel normal again tomorrow…
