Unexpected bonuses…

I am going to see the Bruins play ice hockey tomorrow night! A girl from work managed to get tickets and has offered me one, I am so excited!

Not that I understand the rules…

But for a day that felt like Thursday (at least) it has had an unexpectedly good bonus in it! Only three more days until my weekend day!

Car wash

In response to my lovely mother’s comment on the last post…. True, but this time the excuse is genuine! I shall find a nice car wash where I pay someone to clean the car, worry not. It will have to be cleaned before any of my visitors arrive, otherwise the disgrace would be too much!

Long day in Burlington today – I can’t wait to have weekends to myself again so I can count down to exploring new places each week! Although this weekend is going to involve a birthday party, a trip to Trader Joe’s, a gym visit and the first Superbowl I have ever had cause to care about (we have a sweepstake on the score at work using squares – I am hoping someone will tell me what that means before kickoff on Sunday night…

How on Earth is it only Tuesday?

More snow

Now I know anyone reading this in the UK has been having a fair bit of snow lately, but we got some more today – I say more, as the last lot hasn’t fully melted away yet… Luckily it was dry enough to just brush off the car to drive home, and while the car is still filthy, the new snow coming down didn’t make the journey a total nightmare. Which was lucky! I did get chased through the work car park by a snow plough, though… I think he was waiting to clear the area where my car was, but it was a tad menacing!

Long day today, and I have plague again. Well, a bit of a cold, but a pj day would be the best thing ever. Counting down to March and my 4 days off in a row…!

And for anyone in doubt as to how filthy my car has got with the muck from the roads:

If I could wash it without the water freezing all the doors shut, I totally would… If it was a bit warmer, anyway!

Weekend

So once again here we are on the wrong side of Sunday, getting ready for bed and the start of a new week tomorrow. Last night I went to a surprise leaving party for one of the ex pats, who heads back to the UK later this week. It was a fantastic party, at a gorgeous apartment in South End, with a hostess who was very free with the wine refills. Ergo the random posting last night…

Today was very quiet. Some Skyping, laundry, a lovely dinner with A and her family, and a trip to pick up some bits and pieces from the flat of the girl who is leaving (things that won’t work in the UK or which would be surplus to requirements). Just what was needed. Sadly it meant some things didn’t get done (sorry to my lovely and terribly clever sister, didn’t get to look at your list yet!) but it was the best kind of day.

Back to work I go…

Friday!

… well it isn’t quite my weekend, but it still feels like the weekend even if I do have to go to work tomorrow!

It wasn’t too cold today (only about -9) but part of that will have been due to the frankly obscene number of layers I was wearing – the thermals are in play!!  Although when we left work today all of us said it felt much milder.  My frame of reference is totally ruined…

I also worked out how to play my iPod through my car stereo today – that was exciting.  And so the countdown to the end of work tomorrow begins…

Brrrrrrr…

Well today it got all the way down to -18. That’s both centigrade and Fahrenheit (if you factor in the wind chill). It’s not a lot of fun. I discovered today that that sort of temperature will make any water on your face (I.e. if your eyes water in the cold) freeze to your skin, and even start to freeze any moisture on your eyelashes or nose!! It’s bizarre, and I’m not altogether a fan

I also discovered that while a waist-length ski jacket is lovely and warm when worn with ski trousers, when wearing bog-standard work trousers you get very cold below the waist. Long-line down-filled coat tomorrow, I think, purely because it covers more surface area!!

Additionally I learned today that I have developed the wish to make an “L” sign on my forehead and shout “loser” when I drive past someone who has been pulled over by the police for doing something naughty. Because they got caught, and ergo provided a point of reference so everyone else could slow right down and drive as casually as possible….

Chilly

It was -13 degrees Celsius today. That equates to so cold that your face is numb in under 20 seconds, and makes you wish you were wearing goggles and a balaclava helmet. Tomorrow it is due to be even colder (zero Fahrenheit, however that translates). Not a fan of winter, is it May yet?

Urgh…

… How is it only Tuesday? It’s going to be a long week…

AND there was only a dusting of snow – I should park in a less accessible but more convenient in case of snow emergency related location for all the storms!

Inauguration Day

Today was the day Barack Obama was sworn in publicly for his second term. I’d have loved to go to Washington DC to see it, but it wasn’t to be. Why these things happen during busy season I do not know…

Another day at work, and I have started my healthy living kick. There was soup and a roll for lunch (workmates looked horrified and asked if that was all I was planning to eat… It’s a different world) plus aches and pains from the gym, which means even though I didn’t do a huge lot it has done me good (thanks A!!!). There is a dress in a shop in JP which I really want to buy, but I need to feel less well insulated before I do… It’s good to have a target!!

Anyway, we’ve got a winter storm heading over tonight so we’ll have snow in the morning. I parked in a car park on the flat, just up the street, as I don’t trust the hill outside not to be icy in the morning. Naturally that will guarantee only a dusting of snow with no ice, but at least it’ll be a nice walk first thing in the morning!

One tip for today… Fox have a new drama premiering called “The Following”. Do NOT watch it on your own. Particularly if you still have to clean your teeth and all the lights are going to be off in the house when it is time to do so… Not the brightest of my ideas to date…
